Caught on Camera: Man breaks into car at Beaverton dog park, steals valuables
BEAVERTON Ore. (KPTV) - Washington County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for FOX 12′s Most Wanted, who broke into a car at a local dog park.
The whole crime was caught on camera and as seen on video, it all played out in a matter of seconds.
Nicholas Serrano said he was on his way home from a day trip with his girlfriend Saturday afternoon and stopped at the Winkelman Dog Park in the Cooper Mountain area just before 3 p.m. to let his puppy, Scout, play.
“Just the dog to run out some energy before we went home,” Serrano said.
They didn’t realize something was wrong when they initially left park.
“Two hours later, we’re getting food, we realize the purse is gone, out of the car,” Serrano said.
Someone had stolen it. Thanks to an AirTag, they say they were able to track down their keys less than two miles away from the park, and found some of their stuff scattered along Southwest 175th Avenue.
“We walked the whole road, up and down, up and down,” Serrano said. “I found all my stuff, the three arrows, is keys, purse, wallet.”
The wallet had been emptied out, about $70 in cash and all the cards were missing. Now, The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify the man responsible.
The person can be seen in the video that was captured on dash cam.
“He was in and out within 30 seconds,” Serrano said. “Girlfriend was literally right at the entrance of the dog park, not even 40 feet from the car.”
In the video, a man can be seen opening the front passenger door and rummaging around. Next, he opens a back door and goes through the car again.
Seconds later, he hops into the back of a white SUV that’s parked in the next spot over, and gets away.
The victims said they’re sharing their story to bring awareness that this can happen anywhere.
“It’s kind of disappointing it’s coming down to this in this area,” Serrano said. “People are obviously breaking into cars in broad daylight.”
Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
